The IRS announced that the deadline for filing 2011 income tax returns has been extended to Tuesday, April 17, 2012. This was caused by the April 16 celebration in the District of Columbia of Emancipation Day which marks Abraham Lincoln’s freeing of the slaves.
However, for those who take a 6-month tax-filing extension, the due date remains Monday, October 15, 2012.
